From Kitchen to Community: A Recipe for Business, Family, and Giving Back
April 23, 2025

Our partner charity, ADC Microfinance, is helping people like Win Oo turn ambition into opportunity. Thanks to the regular giving of One Percent Collective donors, Win Oo’s small food business is thriving. So is his family and his whole community.
Win Oo is an inspiring entrepreneur in Myanmar who has built a successful business from his home. He runs a retail store and takes custom orders for cooking chicken biryani (Dan Pauk), roasted chicken rice, and butter rice. He delivers these delicious meals to various towns and caters for charity events, weddings, and religious ceremonies.
Win Oo learned about ADC Microfinance through a community event and decided to seek their help. ADC provided him with a loan, which allowed him to stock up on essential ingredients like rice, oil, butter, and raisins in advance. This support was crucial in helping him meet the demands of his customers and maximize his profits.
With ADC’s help, Win Oo's business transformed. He was able to save more money and provide financial stability for his family, which includes his two sons and two daughters. The positive impact of this change was evident in the improved quality of life for his family and the growth of his business.

Win Oo is one of ADC’s longer-term clients, having received 18 loans to date. Each loan has helped him expand his business and improve his services. His ability to adapt and thrive in a competitive market is truly remarkable. Win Oo's success is not just measured by his financial gains but also by the positive impact he has on his community. He provides delicious meals for various events, bringing people together and fostering a sense of community.
In addition to his business acumen, Win Oo is known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He often participates in charity events, providing food for those in need. His commitment to giving back to his community is a reflection of his values and the strong sense of responsibility he feels towards his neighbours.
Win Oo's story is a powerful reminder that with determination, support, and a strong sense of community, it is possible to overcome challenges and achieve success. His journey from a small home-based business to a thriving enterprise is an inspiration to many.

ADC is now an Alumni Charity
We have been proud to have supported ADC since 2018 and have now moved them to Alumni status to make way for more grassroots charities to take a spot in our donor sign up form. We love everything about ADC and will still be passing on 100% of donations from those who signed up to give to them while they were a priority charity of ours. If you'd like to directly support ADC, please head on over to www.adc.org.nz
