A Lifeline of Medical Supplies

A sea container is packed with medical equipment and supplies coordinated by Take My Hands and headed to Tonga

Any parent understands how challenging it can be when a child is unwell. In New Zealand, most of us have easy access to healthcare services to get the support we need when we need it. That’s not always the case for our Pacific neighbours so our partner charity, Take My Hands, is stepping up to make a meaningful difference.

When a child gets sick in remote parts of Tonga, they might need to take a boat to see a doctor. Sometimes, when they get there, the clinic doesn't have enough tools or the tools don't work well. This makes it hard for the child to get the right medical care.

This month, a Take My Hands (TMH) sea container, full of important medical supplies, has left Auckland on its way to Nuku'alofa in Tonga. When it gets there, staff at the Tonga Health Foundation will distribute these supplies to the places that need them most to ensure that healthcare professionals have the necessary tools to provide care

The contents of this sea container are impressive, featuring a wide array of medical equipment focused on child health, mobility equipment, and general healthcare needs. Many of the items come from medical companies that didn't sell all their stock or used the equipment for showroom display. That means the equipment is pretty much brand new and ready to use. More medical supplies come from hospitals and health clinics across Aotearoa. All pieces are of good quality and have plenty of life left in them, waiting to be put to good use.

By equipping clinics with reliable and functional medical supplies, TMH is directly improving the health outcomes for children and families in Tonga by increasing access to adequate care. That impact cannot be overstated.

TMH believes in working together, beyond borders, with a sense of community and compassion, to create a healthier future for the Pacific Islands. Every child deserves access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live.

Take My Hands is now an Alumni Charity

We have been proud to have supported Take My Hands since 2016 and have now moved them to Alumni status to make way for more grassroots charities to take a spot in our donor sign up form. We love everything about Take My Hands and will still be passing on 100% of donations from those who signed up to give to them while they were a priority charity of ours.
